Nature and environment

Vultures

A protected natural environment

The Upper Aude Valley has a wide range of natural heritage shaped by the combination of several factors: the climate, landscape, geology and, above all, human activities. These factors make the Upper Aude Valley a rich and varied region where nature can be enjoyed and where humans make all the efforts to respect and protect the environment.

Educational booklets have been created to help teach environmental issues in this area and increase awareness among local people and visitors. These booklets are available at the Tourist Office.

Vultures

4 different species of vulture have returned to live in the Southwest of the Aude area, although having disappeared from the territory in the past. To learn more about this species, its history and lifestyle, download the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) brochure here.
